Fear creates a feedback loop of stress hormones that cause our bodies to react quickly and dangerously while courage is characterized by dopamine, which calms us down and allows for more rational decisions.

When we're in fear, the body releases adrenaline—the infamous "fight or flight" hormone. This causes an instant reaction from your heart rate going up as well as increased blood flow to muscles needed for fighting or fleeing the danger at hand. 

Courageous people can keep this instinctual response under control thanks to their gentle release of dopamine instead, it slows things back down so we have enough time to make reasoned choices about what's best next step forward when faced with what our minds perceive as a dangerous situations
